After class, a classmate mentioned the aurora might be visible tonight. Intrigued, we decided to go right away. We drove two hours to Burntcoat Head Park, arriving as the sky turned completely dark.

The park had no lights, so we used our phone flashlights to navigate. It felt risky but thrilling. At first, the aurora was faint, barely visible except through long-exposure photos. Around 11:30 PM, it suddenly glowed vividly, dancing across the sky for about five minutes before fading. Soon after, we headed back.

I’d never seen the aurora before, not until I left home for this far corner of the world. Waiting in the biting wind and cold felt endless, and the aurora’s brief display was fleeting. Still, I feel lucky. Meeting new friends and sharing this moment made the experience truly special.
